Nerja is situated at the eastern tip of Málaga, 50 kms. from the Airport and within an hour and a half’s drive from Granada and the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada.Sheltered by the impressive Natural Parks "Sierra Almijara, Tejeda & Alhama " mountain range. Much of the Nerja coast and beyond is also of environmental and ecological significance, as it forms part of the ‘Cliffs of Maro – Cerro Gordo’ area of outstanding natural beauty.
The town is often referred to as the ‘’Jewel of the Costa del Sol’, has a population approximately 20,000 inhabitants.
Nerja has more than its fair share of fabulous beaches, boasting 16 kms. of coast. The main beaches are Burriana and Torrecilla, both have been awarded the blue flag.
The old quarter of the town is still virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with flowers.
One of the town’s most impressive attractions is the Balcón de Europa, a wonderful promenade, stretching along the edge of a soaring cliff top, which was once the location of a Moorish castle. The platform has spectacular panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline, with its backdrop of mountains.
Only 3 km from the town centre , you can visit the famous Nerja Caves ; underground caverns with stalagmites, stalactites and tall columns.These caves are some of the best in Europe and are the third most visited attraction in the whole of Spain .
When in Nerja visits to the 17th Century Church of El Salvador and El Aguila Aqueduct are essential.
Other sites you should not miss when you come to Nerja are the Balcony of Europe, Águila Aqueduct or the Church of El Salvador.
